The rear jacks extend normally until the feet reach the ground. Then a motor slows, the panel reports an error, or everything stops. The controls still respond, but the trailer won't finish leveling.

That change matters. Moving an unloaded leg takes less effort than supporting the RV. A jack that moves in the air has shown that it can move, but it hasn't proved that its power supply or drive mechanism can do the work required under load.

The useful next question is when the movement changes: at ground contact, at the same extension each time, or after several seconds of operation? Those observations help separate an electrical supply problem from resistance, a travel limit, or a control issue.

Confirm the leveling-system manufacturer and model, not just the trailer brand. An electric leveling system uses motor-driven legs; a hydraulic system uses a pump and hydraulic circuits. Their troubleshooting and emergency procedures differ.

Also confirm that the particular jack is intended to level the RV. Stabilizers and lifting jacks have different jobs, even when they appear on the same trailer. Record whether the panel dims or restarts and whether other equipment changes behavior at the same moment. Describe observations you have already made; don't repeatedly stall the system to collect more examples.

One leg behaves differently

A single affected leg focuses the investigation on that leg and its circuit. Local wiring, a connection, motor or gearbox trouble, physical damage, or an obstruction can produce different versions of the same complaint.

The distinction still isn't absolute. One jack may be doing more work than another on an uneven site. A technician needs to relate the electrical measurements to the position and load of the affected leg.

Ground contact and full extension are different stopping points

A foot sinking into soft ground can make the trailer appear unwilling to level even though the leg continues extending. A leg at the end of its available travel has another problem: there is no more extension available to make the requested correction.

Inspect the site and feet from a safe position with movement stopped. Note sinking pads, uneven contact, visible damage, or an unusually extended leg. Follow the equipment's instructions for suitable ground and support pads. Never insert blocks beneath a loaded foot or improvise a tall stack to make the system finish.

Manual mode working is useful evidence, not a repair

Moving one jack at a time changes the conditions compared with an automatic sequence. Success in manual mode doesn't prove that the complete system can perform normally, and it doesn't justify continuing after repeated stalls.

Likewise, recalibrating the stored level position won't repair a damaged drive or poor electrical connection. Calibration belongs to the question of what the system recognizes as level. A jack that strains or stops needs its operating problem investigated before a reset is treated as the solution.

Don't copy another owner's method of shifting trailer weight to free a jack. Changing support can move the RV unexpectedly. Use the exact manufacturer's instructions or obtain assistance.

What you can safely gather before service

With the RV stationary and everyone clear of the mechanism, photograph the panel message and equipment identification label if it is accessible. Write down:

  • Which jack or pair stopped, and whether it was extending or retracting.
  • Whether the feet had just contacted the ground or a leg was near its travel limit.
  • Whether the panel stayed on, reset, or displayed an exact error.
  • Whether the RV was connected to shore power and whether charging problems were already present.
  • Any visible bending, sinking support pad, damaged cable, or unusual sound.
